Period Property in Chester City Centre
What a privilege it was to enhance this absolutely beautiful Period home overlooking the River Dee in Chester.
Our customer was looking to source Oak flooring for a large sitting room and Dining room. The rooms had large windows overlooking the Meadows and were flooded with light. There was also beautiful Pitch Pine wall panelling in both rooms that we needed to complement.
We all decided that a natural Oak was far too yellow next to the Pitch Pine panelling but the warm, rich tones of Brooks Floor ‘Cognac Oak’ worked wonderfully well. We thought this was too dark in the showroom but once the customer took a large sample board home we knew we had a winner! The textured surface also worked well in such big spaces with super light.
We prepared the floors with sisalkraft mositre proof builders paper and then fitted ply over the floorboards. The new engineered floor was fitted by bonding with MS Polymer adhesive to give a stong, stable finish. Existing skirting boards were removed and panelling was undercut to avoid a scotia beading.
We were also able to recommend local Joinery company Foden Joinery to machine a missing piece of skirting so that we could complete the perfect finish.
The finished floors look wonderful in the Period home and the job is a great example of why you should always take samples home before buying as you never quite know what will work until you see it in your home!
