Since 1997, Living Floors has been a family-run wood flooring specialist. For almost three decades, we have chosen to do one thing exceptionally well. Our focus is simple: create beautiful wood floors, then care for them long after the last board is laid. Wood is not one product among many for us — it is our craft, our expertise and our passion.
A carefully curated collection
Because of that depth of knowledge, our collection is deliberately curated. Alongside our own bespoke range, we work with a select few of the finest names in flooring. These are Ted Todd, Karta, Floorify and Brampton Chase, each chosen for quality, character and longevity. Simply put, we don’t offer everything. Instead, we recommend only what we would be proud to see in our own homes.

What truly sets us apart is how personal our service remains. From your first design consultation and home visit, you’ll work with the same small, experienced team. That continues through subfloor preparation and installation, right up to the aftercare that keeps your floor at its finest. Throughout, every detail is handled with discretion and precision. As a result, your new floor arrives without disruption to the life you’ve built around it.

Our Story
Our story
Where it began
Living Floors was founded in Chester in 1997 by my parents, Blair and Eleanor Smillie. Almost three decades on, we are proud to still be family owned and run. Just as importantly, we remain as devoted to wood as the day we opened our doors.
The idea came from Sweden, where my father was working at the time. There, wood floors were valued for their warmth and practicality as much as their beauty. In the UK, however, there was no true specialist. Blair saw the opportunity and, as the love of wood flooring grew, Living Floors grew with it.
Learning every part of the craft
Since I joined the business in 2002, I have learned every part of it, from creative design to unloading delivery lorries. That grounding matters. It means the advice you receive comes from people who understand wood, from the raw board to the finished floor.
Independent by choice
Independence has always been central to who we are. It leaves us free to choose, and so we choose carefully. Our showroom is a place to see, touch and compare samples side by side. For something truly individual, our bespoke range creates a floor made for your home alone.
Above all, we value the relationships we build. Indeed, we take the time to get to know our clients and their homes. Long after the work is complete, we look after them as we would our own family.

From the first conversation to the final finish, your floor stays in the same trusted hands. We take care of every stage: design, subfloor preparation, fitting, finishing and aftercare. In other words, there is no handing over to strangers and no detail left to chance.

Because we don’t work on commission, there is never any pressure to buy. Instead, we take time to understand how you live, the character of your property and your interior style. Then we guide you to the floor that will suit your home for years to come.
A small, trusted fitting team
Our fitters are a small, close-knit team who share our standards and our respect for your home. Although they are independent, they work as one with us on every project. Occasionally, a subfloor calls for something more complex. In those cases, we bring in trusted specialists, so every floor starts on the right foundation.
Kept informed throughout
The same care applies whether we are installing a new floor or sanding and restoring an existing one. We’ll always confirm dates and arrival times in advance, so everything runs smoothly. The result is a beautifully finished floor, and an experience as considered as the floor itself.
